Weekly Thursday Traditional Irish Music Session
Unamplified traditional Irish folk sessions in the public bar every Thursday from 8:00 PM with Birmingham Comhaltas musicians.
Join us from Monday 26th October to Sunday 1st November to mark one year since The Anchor Digbeth was saved from closure — seven days of local history with Professor Carl Chinn MBE, Wine & Cheese Tasting, Spirit of Birmingham Irish Whiskey Tasting, the launch of our weekly traditional Irish music session, Attic Brew Co Craft Beer Tasting, Peter Coughlan live on Saturday 31st October, Sunday Trade Night, and our special week-long Anchor × Shabab’s ‘Cheese & Onion Bhaji’ crusty cob collaboration.

Unamplified traditional Irish folk sessions in the public bar every Thursday from 8:00 PM with Birmingham Comhaltas musicians.

Friend of the pub, and Professor of all things Birmingham, Prof. Carl Chinn hosts a signature event from behind the bar! An illustrated talk exploring the Bull Ring markets since 1166, Digbeth, Deritend, Bradford Street, and the history of The Anchor.

A guided wine tasting and cheese board evening showcasing four standout pours from our revamped wine menu — Taittinger Nocturne Champagne, Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Reserva Rioja — paired with four artisan cheeses alongside Digbeth’s first vegan cheese board! (£10 + booking fee)

Birmingham’s first and only whiskey distillery, Spirit of Birmingham, headlines our Wednesday anniversary session — exploring the history of ‘uisce beatha’ with a tasting of up to 4 whiskies from Ireland alongside Birmingham’s first own single malt. (£10 + booking fee)

Launching our brand-new weekly live session from some of Birmingham’s most talented pipe, fiddle, bodhrán, and box players in conjunction with Irish cultural organisation Comhaltas — featuring former Comhaltas president Vince Jordan alongside Patsy Maloney. (From 7pm, free admission)

Strictly pen and paper — no phones! Giving locals and regulars a chance to test their trivia knowledge in a classic pub quiz atmosphere in our Maroon and White small function room (‘The Galway Room’), led by The Anchor’s own Peter Connolly and Paul Beirne. (7pm, free entry)

Notable Irish singer-songwriter Peter Coughlan, who helped mark the reopening of Anchor Digbeth in 2025 playing live, returns to the Rea and Bradford Streets corner venue exactly one year later for a special anniversary performance — with freshly baked pizzas served straight from the kitchen throughout Saturday. (8pm, free admission)

An afternoon celebrating the heritage and craftsmanship of regional brewing with Attic Brew Co and Church End Brewery — featuring Church End’s What The Fox, Fallen Angel, and Gravediggers alongside Attic’s Lighter, Ingot, Clasp, and a special edition Anchor × Attic collaboration. (2:30pm, £10 + booking fee)

Designed especially for hospitality workers across the city, The Anchor Trade Night is reborn on Sunday 1st November — giving Birmingham’s night-time economy workforce a place to unwind with DJ sets, £1 mystery shots, beer pong, and hand-stretched pizza served at 500 degrees by the slice in the beer garden from the smallest kitchen in Digbeth. (From 11pm, free admission)
Throughout our week of celebrations, a special edition ‘cheese and onion bhaji’ crusty cob — created in collaboration with iconic Birmingham Balti restaurant Shabab’s — is on sale at the bar, marking the first time the two legendary city brands have joined forces.
As part of our Halloween and Samhain festivities, enter a carved pumpkin at the bar for £5 and cast your vote with every pint purchased throughout the week — culminating in a £100 bar tab prize awarded on Sunday 1st November!
