Est 1793

Just a really, really good pub.

Superbly conditioned cask ales, local independent beers, creamy pints of Guinness and a straight forward pub grub menu.

Pints, heritage and good people

At the Anchor Digbeth we’re all about bringing people together. Our mission is to serve up the best cask ale, the creamiest pints of Guinness and a proper old school good pub experience. No bollocks, no gimmicks, just great pints, great people, and great times.

The Anchor has been a cornerstone of Digbeth since 1793, and since then times have definitely changed in the pub trade. Our vision is to bring it back to how all good pubs should be… Authentic leather bench seats in Carrickfergus Red and Emerald Green, exposed solid pine floors, the mahogany bar counter, brass hand pulls, Minton tiles, stained glass windows and a terracotta facade.

You can’t beat a good thing, and that’s all we aspire to be – just a really good pub.

A Pub for Everyone

The Anchor already has a wide community of regulars and we want to make sure that under our stewardship, The Anchor remains somewhere that is inclusive, welcoming and enjoyable by everyone. So much time, effort and good will has gone into restoring The Anchor to where it is today – lots of good people doing good things.

We hope The Anchor will continue to be an important part of the Birmingham and Digbeth landscape, and our heartfelt restoration will reignite memories in customers old and new, of what it means to be a part of a good pub community.

Cask Ales and Independent Beers

The Anchor has always had a reputation for maintaining superbly conditioned Cask Ales ,and for sourcing new and interesting ales from across the country. We hope to continue that tradition, with an enthusiasm for local breweries and distilleries (we’re looking at you Birmingham Distillery) providing a taste of quality, Birmingham drinking heritage.

The Anchor is Raised!

Established in 1793

The Anchor is one of the oldest public houses in Digbeth, Birmingham, dating back to 1797 according to Wikipedia, but 1793 according to the mighty Professor Carl Chinn – and we’ll take Carl’s word over anyone else’s!

The current building was erected in 1901, designed by James and Lister Lea for the Holt Brewery Company. In December 1991 it was granted Grade II listed status, joining the ranks of other gorgeous nearby pubs like the White Swan. Cheers to that!
